Open Fire (Ranged Attack)

The Open Fire action allows a model to make a ranged attack against an enemy model.

Requirements

To perform an Open Fire action, the attacking model must have a line of sight to the target.

If the target is Obscured by another model from its own crew, the defending player may choose which of the two models is targeted by the attack.

The target's distance from the attacker determines the type of roll: - Within Effective Range: A standard roll is made, and the attacker can benefit from bonus dice as described below. - Beyond Effective Range: The shot is considered a long shot. The attacker must make an Unlucky Roll.

Weapon ranges vary. For example, a Pistol might have a shorter effective range than a Rifle.

Bonus Dice

When making a ranged attack against a target within effective range, you may gain bonus dice for your attack roll based on the situation. These bonuses are cumulative. As per the rules for an Unlucky Roll, attacks against targets beyond effective range cannot gain bonus dice.

  • Supporters (+1 per supporter): For each friendly model that can support the attack, you gain one bonus die. The maximum number of bonus dice from supporters is equal to the active model's Charisma.

    • A supporter must be a friendly, unengaged model.
    • A supporter must be within the active model's control area.
    • A supporter must have line of sight to the target.
    • A supporter must have a non-grenade and non-heavy ranged weapon.
    • Each supporter takes 1 fatigue. A model that cannot take fatigue (e.g., is already exhausted) cannot provide support.
  • Wide Open Target (+1): If the target is Wide Open, the attacker gains one bonus die.

  • Harm on Target (+1 per harm): For each point of harm the target has already suffered, the attacker gains one bonus die. This represents the target being wounded and less able to defend themselves.

Resolving Damage

After rolling the dice, compare the number of successful hits to the target's Endurance stat. See the Damage section for full details on harm and injuries.

  • Hits < Endurance: The target suffers 1 Harm.
  • Hits >= Endurance: The target suffers 1 Injury and 1 Harm.
  • Hits > 2 * Endurance: The target is Incapacitated.

When a model is Incapacitated, it is removed from the battlefield. - All models within 3" must immediately pass a Confusion Test (2I) or become confused. A confused model must either take 1 fatigue (if able) or Flee (be removed from the battlefield). - If a Champion is Incapacitated, its crew earns 1 XP. Each crew can only benefit from this rule once per game.
