Visibility, Cover, and Obscurity

Determining if one model can see another is crucial for ranged attacks and using certain abilities. This page outlines the rules for line of sight and how terrain and other models can affect visibility.

Line of Sight

One model can see another if you can trace an imaginary, uninterrupted line from any part of one model's main body to any part of the other model's main body.

  • What to Ignore: A model’s base, weapons, equipment, and protruding pieces of clothing (such as helmet ornamentation) are ignored when determining Visibility.
  • Blockages: This line cannot be traced through other models or Terrain Features, except for Decorative Terrain.

However, a line does not have to be traced to every part of the model; as long as it can be traced to one part of the main body, the model is Visible.

Cover and Target Status

Wide Open

A model is considered Wide Open if a line can be traced from the attacker to all parts of the target model's main body.

Obscured

A model is Obscured if any part of it is hidden from the attacker's view by any part of another model from the same crew. When a model is Obscured, the defender can decide which of the models (the intended target or the obscuring model) will be targeted by the attack.
