What You Need

  • Miniatures: Collect and build your crew from the Fallout Miniatures line.
  • Dice: Official Factions dice, the digital roller above, or 2 sets of easily distinguished d10 dice (1 set for regular dice, 1 set for lucky dice).
  • The Battlefield: A playing area measuring exactly 2ft x 3ft (24" x 36" or ~60cm x 90cm). Terrain features include Major, Minor, and Decorative elements.
  • Tokens: You can use official tokens or easily substitute them:
    • Harm Tokens: Can be replaced by any d4 or d6 dice placed next to models.
    • Weary / Exhausted Tokens: Any coin-like tokens showing 2 different sides work perfectly to distinguish between Weary and Exhausted.
    • Initiative and Retreat: A single token not used on the battlefield, so it can be anything.
    • Round Tracker: Can be tracked with a single off-board d6 (the bigger, the better).
    • Search Tokens: Can be replaced with barrels, crates, or other scenery pieces on ~30mm bases.
    • Radiation Tokens: ~30mm in size; 8 is enough for most games.
    • Objective Tokens: ~20mm in size; 6 is enough for most games.
    • Ploy Tokens: Up to 3 per player. Not used on the battlefield, so anything works.
  • Other Components: Measuring tapes (in inches), Game Sheet, Story Sheet.

Basic Game Structure

Fallout Factions is played over a series of Rounds. During a round, players take turns activating models to perform Actions.

  1. Setting Up a Game: Set up the board, choose crews, determine objectives and hazards.
  2. Actions: The core gameplay. Roll for initiative, take actions, and score points.
  3. The Story Phase: Post-game sequence. Treat the wounded, resolve quests, and spend resources.
