Damage
Quick Reference
- Compare Damage inflicted to the target's Endurance.
- Damage ≥ double Endurance → model is Incapacitated (removed after Confusion checks).
- Damage ≥ Endurance → model suffers an Injury and 1 Harm.
- Damage < Endurance → model suffers 1 Harm. If this causes Excess Harm, the model suffers an Injury.
- Incapacitation triggers Confusion Tests (2I) for each Friendly model within 3".
- Failing a Confusion Test → the model Flees (removed) or Takes Fatigue.
- If a Champion is Incapacitated, its crew earns 1 XP (once per game).
Damage Resolution
Attacks and other dangers can inflict an amount of Damage on a model. When this happens, consult this table to determine the outcome. [Rulebook pg. 22]
| Amount of Damage inflicted is… | Outcome |
|---|---|
| …at least double the model's Endurance. | The model is Incapacitated. |
| …equal to or greater than the model's Endurance. | The model suffers an Injury and 1 Harm. |
| …less than the model's Endurance. | The model suffers 1 Harm. If this causes Excess Harm, the model suffers an Injury. |
Harm
Harm represents minor wounds and weariness, which make a model more likely to be Injured by a subsequent attack. When a model with Harm is the Target of an Attack Action, the Attacking model gains a number of Bonus Dice equal to the amount of Harm on the Target. [Rulebook pg. 22]
To show how much Harm a model has suffered, place a Harm Token next to it, showing the relevant value. [Rulebook pg. 22]
Most models have a Harm Limit of 3. This means that the model cannot suffer any more than 3 Harm. Any Harm beyond this is considered Excess Harm, which has no effect unless a rule specifically states otherwise. Excess Harm caused by Damage is a key example of an instance where an alternate effect is triggered, as Excess Harm caused by Damage will cause an Injury. [Rulebook pg. 22]
Some rules allow models to Recover Harm, reducing the amount they have suffered. When a model Recovers Harm, adjust its Harm Token accordingly. [Rulebook pg. 22]
Injury
Injuries are significant wounds that risk taking a model out of the game. [Rulebook pg. 22]
Whenever a model suffers an Injury, mark one of the Injury Boxes on its Model Entry (pg. 12). If the number of marked Injury Boxes equals the model's Health value, the model is Incapacitated. [Rulebook pg. 22]
Most Grunts only have 1 Health, so a single Injury is enough to Incapacitate them. [Rulebook pg. 22]
Incapacitation
When a model is Incapacitated, it is removed from play after checking for Confusion. [Rulebook pg. 22]
Experience: Harsh Lessons
If a Champion is Incapacitated, its crew earns 1 XP. Each crew can only benefit from this rule once per game. [Rulebook pg. 22]
Confusion
Combat is chaos! When bullets start flying and people start dropping, it's not easy to keep a cool head! [Rulebook pg. 22]
Whenever a model is Incapacitated, that model's player must make a Confusion Test (2I) for each Friendly model that was within 3" of the Incapacitated model before the model is removed from play. These Tests are made one model at a time, in an order of the controlling player's choosing. [Rulebook pg. 22]
- If the model Passes the Test, nothing happens.
- If the model Fails the Test, it becomes Confused. When a model becomes Confused, its controller must choose to have the model either Flee or Take Fatigue. If the controller selects Flee, the model is removed from play. Models that cannot Take Fatigue must choose Flee.
Note that Confusion is only caused when models become Incapacitated. Models that are removed from play for other reasons (such as fleeing) do not cause Confusion. [Rulebook pg. 22]
Errata
Some instances (such as Attacks with the Area (X") Trait) may cause a model's player to make multiple Confusion Tests. In these cases, each Confusion Test must be resolved before moving on to the next one. A model can be affected by multiple Confusion Tests in one turn. [Errata Q2 2026]
Damage Examples
These examples carry on from those on pg. 17. [Rulebook pg. 22]
Example One
Alex's Master, Brick, has attacked Sam's Good Boy, Fidus, with a Super Sledge and scored 4 Hits. The attack rules will be explained later; for now, you only need to know that this inflicts 4 Damage on the Target.
Alex consults the table, comparing the number of Hits to Fidus' Endurance, which is 3. This means that the second result on the table applies — "the amount of Damage inflicted is equal to or greater than the model's Endurance" — so Fidus suffers an Injury and 1 Harm.
A Good Boy only has 1 Health, so as soon as Sam marks the first Injury Box, the model is Incapacitated and removed from play. If she has any other Friendly models within 3", she'll have to make Confusion Tests for them.
Example Two
Sam's Security Guard, Double-Joe, has returned fire at Brick. It wasn't a great shot and she only scored 2 Hits.
Sam consults the table and, using Brick's Endurance of 6, sees that the third result applies: "the amount of Damage inflicted is less than the model's Endurance". This means Brick takes 1 Harm; not enough to take him out of the fight, but better than nothing!
