Scenario 4: Sabotage
Quick Reference
- The player who chose the Scenario is the Attacker; the other is the Defender.
- Board 36" × 24". Attacker Setup Area = one corner, a 12" radius quarter-circle; the other three corners are Defender Setup Areas (6" radius each), chosen by Roll Off.
- Defender places 4 Objective Tokens (infrastructure) on the diagonals near the Attacker; Attacker then places 4 Search Tokens in the Defender's half.
- Defender's light Grunts are Lookouts (deploy near Objectives); the rest are Reinforcements arriving in two groups from Round 2 onward.
- Demolitions: Objective Tokens are safe or primed. Attackers Prime the Explosives; Defenders Remove the Explosives with an Explosives Test.
- Attacker deploys first and takes the Initiative Token; game lasts 3 Rounds or until a crew Retreats.
- Special Ploy — Short Fuse!: blow up a primed Token with the Explosive Charge (5A, Maim).
- Scenario Points: Attacker 2 per primed/detonated Token; Defender 1 per safe Token, 6 if Attackers Retreat.
Overview
The player who chose this Scenario is the Attacker, and the other is the Defender. In this Scenario, the Attacker attempts to break into a secure, defended area and attach timed explosive charges to essential infrastructure their enemies rely on so they can be blown up. [Battle for Boston pg. 55]
Orientation
Once Terrain has been set up, the players Roll Off. The winner chooses one corner to be the Attacker Setup Area. The Defender Setup Areas are in the other three corners. [Battle for Boston pg. 55]
Objective Tokens
Once Terrain has been set up, the Defender places four Objective Tokens on the Battlefield. These represent key infrastructure. Each one must be placed on a diagonal line drawn between the two closest corners to the Attacker Setup Area. An Objective Token cannot be placed within 4" of the Defender's Setup Areas or another Objective Token. [Battle for Boston pg. 55]
Search Tokens
After Objective Tokens have been set up, the Attacker places four Search Tokens in the half of the Battlefield that contains the Defender Setup Area. [Battle for Boston pg. 55]
They cannot place a Search Token within 4" of another Search Token or an Objective Token. [Battle for Boston pg. 55]
Starting Positions

Deployment map (pg. 55): The battlefield is 36" wide by 24" deep. After Terrain is set up the players Roll Off; the winner chooses one corner to be the Attacker Setup Area — a quarter-circle of 12" radius in that corner. The other three corners are Defender Setup Areas, each a quarter-circle of 6" radius. The half of the board furthest from the Attacker is the Defender Battlefield Half. The Attacker starts with the Initiative Token. Four Objective Tokens (shown as the numbered infrastructure markers) are placed by the Defender along the diagonal lines between the two corners closest to the Attacker Setup Area; four Search Tokens are then placed by the Attacker in the Defender's half. The game lasts for 3 Rounds.
The Defender may choose a number of Grunts with a Health total of no more than 3 between them as Lookouts. Each Lookout must be set up within 3" of an Objective Token. All of their other models are Reinforcements. These models will be set up throughout the game. Reinforcements should be divided up into two groups, with each group having as equal a number of models as possible. [Battle for Boston pg. 55]
The Attacker sets up their Champions within the Attacker Setup Area, then sets up their Grunts so that each one is within the Control Area of a Friendly Champion. Then they take the Initiative Token. [Battle for Boston pg. 55]
Special Rules
Reinforcements
At the start of each Round after the first, the Defender chooses a Defender Setup Area and a group of Reinforcements. The group of Reinforcements are set up within that area. [Battle for Boston pg. 55]
Demolitions
Objective Tokens can be flipped to one of two sides – "primed" or "safe". The Attackers are aiming to prime as many Tokens as possible, whereas the Defender is looking to keep them safe. Objective Tokens start the game as safe. [Battle for Boston pg. 55]
When an Unengaged Attacker model is within 1" of a safe Objective Token, it may make the following Action: [Battle for Boston pg. 56]
Action: Prime the Explosives
A safe Objective Token within 1" is flipped to primed. [Battle for Boston pg. 56]
When an Unengaged Defender model is within 1" of a primed Objective Token, it may take the following Action: [Battle for Boston pg. 56]
Action: Remove the Explosives
The Active player makes an Explosives Test (2I) for the Active model. For each Harm Token on this Objective Token, add a bonus die. [Battle for Boston pg. 56]
- If the Test scores at least 2 Hits, the bomb is defused. Flip the Objective Token to safe. [Battle for Boston pg. 56]
- If the Test scores 1 Hit, place a Harm Token on the Objective Token. [Battle for Boston pg. 56]
- If the Test scores 0 Hits, there is a problem with the explosive. No Harm Tokens are placed on the Objective Token. [Battle for Boston pg. 56]
Special Ploy: Short Fuse!
The Attacker may enact this Ploy at the beginning of any Round after the first. Choose a primed Objective Token. [Battle for Boston pg. 56]
Choose a Friendly model. This model makes an attack with the Explosive Charge weapon (below). Each model (from either crew) within 3" of the Objective Token counts as a Target model. Make a single Attack Test for which no Bonus Dice can be applied. Then, resolve the Inflict Damage step once for each Target model, in an order chosen by the Active player. Do not resolve Confusion until Damage has been applied to all models. [Battle for Boston pg. 56]
| Weapon | Type | Test | Traits | Critical Effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Explosive Charge | – | 5A | – | Maim |
Now, remove the Objective Token from the Battlefield. [Battle for Boston pg. 56]
Scenario Details
The game lasts for three Rounds, or until a crew Retreats. [Battle for Boston pg. 56]
Scenario Points
At the end of the game, the Attacker scores 2 points for each primed Objective Token on the Battlefield, or Objective Token that has been removed with the Short Fuse! Ploy. [Battle for Boston pg. 56]
The Defender scores 1 point for each safe Objective Token on the Battlefield, and 6 points if the Attackers Retreat. The crew that has scored the most points at the end of the game is the winner. [Battle for Boston pg. 56]
