Control Area

During play, models can give orders to Friendly models around them, bringing them along when they move or getting support when they make a Ranged Attack. This is represented by the model's Control Area. [Rulebook pg. 21]

A model's Control Area extends out from its Base a number of inches equal to its Charisma. All Friendly models within this area count as being within the model's Control Area. As a model's Control Area begins at the edge of its base, a model is never treated as being within its own Control Area. [Rulebook pg. 21]

FAQ

Q: Is a model within its own Control Area?

A: Yes. This means certain Perks like Power of Prayer and Spotter will affect the model with the Perk itself. Others like Sermons will not, so read each Perk carefully. [Errata Q2 2026]

Q: When are Enemy models counted as being within a Control Area?

A: An Enemy model is only ever considered to be within the Control Area of a model from an opposing crew when a special rule or Perk (such as Intimidation) specifically requires it. Otherwise, only Friendly models can be within a Control Area. [Errata Q2 2026]

Example: Control Area

The Survivor Swatter in the center of this image has a Charisma of 5, so its Control Area extends 5" out from its Base in all directions. The furthest Settler on the right is too far away to be in the Control Area and the Raider Psycho is an Enemy model, but the other two models (the Specialist and the other Settler) are both in the Swatter's Control Area.
