Scenario 1: Skirmish
Quick Reference
- Attacker = lower Reputation crew; Defender = higher Reputation crew.
- Board 36" × 24". Setup Areas are opposite corners (triangles), chosen by Roll Off. Defender's boundary is 15".
- Defender places Search Tokens first; alternate until 5 are placed (not in a Setup Area, not within 4" of another).
- Attacker deploys first and takes the Initiative Token; game lasts 4 Rounds or until a crew Retreats.
- Scenario Points: 2 per Enemy Incapacitated (3 if a Champion), plus 1 per Enemy removed by Confusion. Most points wins.
- Story Outcome: winner gains 1 Control, or rolls 2 dice for that many Caps (Caps required if the game was in the Wasteland).
- A crew's first-ever game uses this Scenario — see the Welcome to Boston rules.
Overview
The crew with the lower Reputation are the Attackers, and the crew with the higher Reputation are the Defenders. [Battle for Boston pg. 51]
Orientation
Once Terrain has been set up, the players Roll Off. The winner chooses one corner of the Battlefield to be the Attacker Setup Area. The opposite corner is the Defender Setup Area. [Battle for Boston pg. 51]
Search Tokens
After Setup Areas have been determined, the players take turns placing a Search Token on the Battlefield, starting with the Defender, until five Tokens have been placed. [Battle for Boston pg. 51]
Search Tokens cannot be placed within either crew's Setup Area, or within 4" of another Search Token. [Battle for Boston pg. 51]
Starting Positions

Deployment map (pg. 51): The Battlefield is 36" wide (top edge) by 24" deep (left edge). Each Setup Area is a triangle cutting off one corner, bounded by a diagonal dashed line. The Attacker Setup Area is the triangle in the bottom-left corner; the Defender Setup Area is the triangle in the opposite (top-right) corner, its diagonal boundary labelled 15". The Attacker's diagonal boundary is not given a printed measurement in the source. Side panels note that the Attacker starts with the Initiative Token and that the game lasts 4 Rounds (shown as four numbered round markers). No Objective, Search, or Hazard tokens are pre-printed on the map — Search Tokens are placed by the players during setup as described above.
The Attacker sets up all of their models within the Attacker Setup Area and takes the Initiative Token. Then the Defender sets up all of their models in the Defender Setup Area. [Battle for Boston pg. 51]
Special Rules
There are no special rules for this Scenario. [Battle for Boston pg. 51]
Scenario Details
The game lasts for four Rounds, or until a crew Retreats. [Battle for Boston pg. 51]
Scenario Points
Each crew scores 2 points for each Enemy model they Incapacitate, or 3 points if the model is a Champion. They also score 1 point for each Enemy model that is removed due to Confusion. The crew that has scored the most points at the end of the game is the winner. [Battle for Boston pg. 51]
Story Outcomes
The winning crew chooses one: [Battle for Boston pg. 51]
- Gain 1 Control in the game's Location. [Battle for Boston pg. 51]
- Roll two dice, add the scores together, and add that many Caps to the crew's Stash. If the game took place in the Wasteland, this option must be chosen. [Battle for Boston pg. 51]
Welcome to Boston
A crew's first game always uses this Scenario. If this was either crew's first game, the following rules apply immediately after the game ends. [Battle for Boston pg. 51]
Stake a Claim — The player chooses a Location from the list on their Story Sheet, and writes a "1" in the Control box for that Location, as well as their Control Total box. Then they write the Location's name in their Home Turf box. [Battle for Boston pg. 51]
The Quest Begins… — The player turns to their Faction List, and chooses one of the Quest Lines available to them. They copy the Tier 1 Quest to their Story Sheet, as described on page 41. [Battle for Boston pg. 51]
Easy First Ride — The player's crew skips the Treat the Wounded step of the Story Phase after this game. [Battle for Boston pg. 51]
